I have that song in my head by Peaches and Herb, “Reunited and it feels so good”. Even though it’s really a romantic tune, I am feeling that way about having our boy back! We made a very long trip, there and back again. A trip that I may not have taken otherwise: The things we do for love. 😊
When I got clean, I was able to “reunite” with many important people in my life. Like my mom. My sisters and brother, my children. I was able to have conversations and be present minded with people I cared about. Also, with people who might give me a job!
I was “reunited” with society, with manners and motivation for a better life. Restored to right thinking actually. I was able to make and keep friends and to “reunite” with old friends. I also “reunited” with old dreams and goals. With desires to do better, have better and help my children be better.
As life continued on, I’ve had many departures and said a ton of goodbyes. But boy isn’t it grand when we “reunite” and have our “good to see you” again reunions. Therein lies my most recent “reunion” happiness. Fact is, they often times don’t come back, that’s why it’s all the sweeter when they do. 😊 * Last night our little boy’s great grandmother passed away, first thing he said was, “well, she’s in a better place and not in pain anymore”. Because he got to meet her on the trip he took and she was in a nursing home, so he seen her fragility and pain. He knows, she is having a “reunion” too and someday, we will all meet again for a big ol “reunion”.
Then again, there are some that you may have been more than happy to say “good bye” to and really don’t want any kind of reunion! That’s ok too, again, that’s why the ones you do want back are that much sweeter when they do. I think the holidays often brings on some “reunions”, whether you meant for it to happen or not. Life is full of surprises, right?
Well, like I said, I had a sweet, sweet reunion this week and I’m so grateful to have our little boy back at home with us. Absence truly does make the heart grow fonder. And it’s true, “You don’t know what you got till it’s gone”. This whole lock down thing had caused us all to feel penned in and getting on each other’s nerves. But this time apart has made us realize how much we love each other and need each other. I realize that he is a God send, one more time! Reunited and it feels so good!
What causes reunions? Holidays, Weddings, Birthdays, Graduations, End of Military service or leave from the Military. Death, Birth, Prison release, Families and the greatest of these is Love!
