Completion

It’s been a fun and interesting weekend, a celebration.  We camped out last night and had a campfire meeting two nights in a row. Hung out with old and new friends. Hiked, had the sun in our face on a beautiful day. That’s how I spent my 38th clean birthday. Thank-you God.

This week I also finished up my women’s bible study and then my core group bible study. It feels so good to complete some things. I love completing tasks, lists, promises and commitments. Something about completion lifts my spirits and brings me self-satisfaction. I feel as through I am living in God’s will.

I have completed thirty-eight years of staying clean a day at a time. I remember when I had completed thirty days clean, wow! I thought that was amazing, because I thought it was impossible.  To tell you truth, what I’m really amazed at – is God and what He has done for me.  And just because I have completed thirty-eight years of staying clean one day at a time, does not mean I’m done, I’m looking forward to forty, one day at a time.

I have struggled over my lifetime with negativity, I try to be hopeful, but negativity often wins out. Yet, for some reason, I always have a hope and trust and faith in God that seems to seep back up.  Steps one, two and three break it down for me with 1. I can’t. 2. He can. 3. I’ll let Him.

Which means, only by the grace of God have I reached thirty eight years clean. Only by the grace of God have I ever completed anything worthwhile.  Some of those things are a successful, loving marriage, raising kids, finishing school, a few times.  Finishing book studies with sponsee’s, church and other groups. I even completed the difficult task of getting out of debt and paying everything off, I used a program called Financial Peace University.

I have completed all twelve steps about twenty times over, but that does not mean I’m finished working steps. As long as I’m alive and able I will continue to work my steps.

I have completed reading through my bible about five times or more. I completed approximately forty plus journals and then some. I write all the time.  I have completed most of the items on my bucket list with two more opportunities coming up in the next couple of months to check off more.

I have completed working up until retirement age and I still do work at a part time job.  I am not done; I still have other things to complete with the Lord’s help!  I still have a list of things to do. I don’t seem to ever get finished. But I think it’s important to always have goals and plans.  I don’t want to ever be completely finished.

But these small accomplishments along life’s way continues to give me hope, inspiration and willingness to continue on to the next big thing, or small thing. They help to lift me out of the negativity that I struggle with. And they give me focus and faith to encourage others to pursue their goals.  Only, with the help of God.

With Easter coming this week I would be remiss not to mention what else my Higher Power has done for me. As he hung, dying on cross at Calvary, His last words to His Father in heaven were, “it is finished”.

Question of the Week: How are you doing in completing your goals and tasks?  What have you finished?
