39!

Blog for April 1st, 2024

Happy thirty-nine years to me! Thank you, Lord! Don’t think for one minute that I’m not over the top grateful, because I sure am. I have been given so much, so much more than just abstinence from drugs. So much more than recovery. But because of it, because of recovery I have received so much more.

Should I list in alphabetical or numerical order?  Either way, the list is not just long, it is deep. Because there have been times when extraordinary things are only for a moment, a day or short time, but the impact is everlasting. How do you weigh the miraculousness of it all?  Impossible! So, all I can do is just keep living in today and being grateful each and every day clean, each and every day in God’s grace.

But please don’t think these thirty-nine years have been all peaches and cream, all rainbows and unicorns, far from it. My husband and I have been through many trials and tribulations, with our children, our health, our family, friends, recovery, money, faith, our resolve to stay clean and in recovery has been our constant source of strength, our northern star.

Bottom line, my blog today is about giving praise and gratitude for my years clean, for the life recovery has given me. I am more than thankful. I am beyond words. How can I ever repay this incredible gift? I can’t repay God, nor can I repay NA, AA or all the people that have been a part of my journey to this point. But I can try to live each day in gratitude and try to pay it forward and give back what has so freely been given to me.

I’ve often said, the more I try to give back, the more in debt I become to my Higher Power, to the program and all those who helped me. Like my husband, the love of my life, my sisters, Shirley, Judy and Susie and my brother Jack. My dear friends, Bobbie Jo and Karen, my sponsors, Bev, Jessie and how about Cindy. My children and grandchildren. All my sponsees over the years, so many friends in the fellowship, I thank them all.

There have been coworkers, neighbors, doctors, teachers, nurses, passersbyers and so on. God has given me a constant influx of encouragers, helpers and love. Eskimos as we call them in the program, of which, I really met a new friend last September, a real Eskimo in the program who helped me lived out a bucket list wish. Seeing the majestic northern lights.

See what I mean, they are there at every turn, in every way. I thank you all, the world at large, the fellowship at large, my friends and family, especially my beautiful husband, God bless him, bless them all. Amen.
