So What!
One of my thoughts for a couple of days have been “So What”! It keeps coming back to me. I heard some kind of news commentator say it in reply to some political stuff going on, and he’s repeated it a couple more times. It just really caught my attention, because that’s how I’m feeling about a lot of things, and so what if I am?! Lol
I’ve been dealing with some of my own heavy issues, and I want to lean into the whole “so what”, “let go and let God” attitude as well. Someone pretty much took my inventory- and I am trying to digest it all. It was quite the unwelcomed survey of myself. On one hand, they are very important to me so what they think of me matters, on the other hand, “so what!” So, we have different ways, thoughts, different personalities. So what! Does that mean we can’t get along and love each other?
I’m not trying to take the flippant way out and say it really doesn’t matter, because it does. To me anyway. So, what does “so what” really mean? Well, looking it up, it means indifferent, not really caring that much, or it’s asking, “ok, now that we know all that, now what?” I think I go with that one the most in my current case.

I also think of “so what” in terms of enabling, strengthening, defensive, self-preserving and just allowing others their own thoughts and feelings and letting it go. Example: Ken might say “I don’t think I’ll get that job I applied for” and then I say “so what if you don’t get that one, God will put you in just the right job for you.” Or my friend says, “I didn’t finish cleaning my house”, I say “so what. It’ll all be there tomorrow, and you’ll get to sooner or later.”
I’m not trying to minimize their dilemmas but at the same time, ease their concerns about the issue. It can be used like that to help people calm down and get a better or different perspective. Still, this a phrase that should not be thrown out there so lightly, but with some compassion and understanding.
“So what if we don’t all always see eye to eye, we’re still friends and we’ll move on, loving and caring for each other.”
Whoop, there it is. That’s the one. So what, for me, means, it’s ok not to be 100% on board with each other. This is nothing to get loaded about, or make nasty posts on social media, it’s just a fact jack. So what if we don’t all think and feel the same way. We need to give each other space and grace. Give them to God and let Him sort us all out. So what if we’re different, it’s quite all right!
Question of the Week: Do you have any “so what’s?”
