Ups and Downs of the Week
As with most of our weeks around here, there were ups and downs, but mostly, by the grace of God, I have managed to stay pretty much on an even keel. I was pleasantly surprised at a doctor’s visit this last week of an ongoing, ridiculous battle of fighting for myself and my husband’s medical needs to finally have some solutions. Yay! Well, mine is. And we have come to a decision regarding my husband’s issue, living in the solution is our motto.

We had a nice little visit from a grandson and that always makes me happy, another grandson took responsibility for his faux pas at school and worked it out, so proud of him. He is indeed growing up. Other highlights of the week were attending a big NA function in a lake park, the tenth annual family cookout that the men’s meeting sponsors. It was great, I got to see several people I’ve known for a long time and love and care about. I even won a new fancy ice chest in the raffle. Yay
We went to a meeting last night and lo and behold, a guy from about twenty years ago was there! He had moved to Dallas and is a truck driver, so he stopped here and came to a meeting. Wow, blast from the past. Didn’t always agree with him, but he is a memorable person and has grown a lot. It was so good to see him.
Those are some of the “ups” for the week, some of the downs, a beloved long-time member with fifty-eight years passed away, and so did an amazing lady, a mentor or mine, wonderful people, both of them. They both will be greatly missed.

Meanwhile, this weekend, I know that my daughter is all alone, far away and very sick with covid. I wish I could help her, but as always, I’m praying for her. And our grandson and his family had to evacuate their house due to a big fire heading their way. Again, prayers are all I got here, it is a wind driven fire and I prayed for the wind to stop. Amen.
One of the most insightful things that happened to me this week was that I was reading in 1 Thessalonian 5:1-28, which talks about Gods will. It was a great way to wrap up my deep dive into step eleven, and it spoke to me about moving onto step twelve. Which I can see and feel how that step would help me greatly at this point in my recovery journey. It may possibly help me get past my feelings of wanting to quit being of service. Because I hope it reminds me of how helping others and carrying the message is my primary purpose in the program. Perhaps I’ve been lagging in that area, we shall see. I’m sure I will be spouting some of my new insights as I grow and learn by working this step a little deeper.
I’m just trying to stay clean and recover, living according to the Spiritual Principles of the program, which I believe is God’s will for me. This “formula” has been working for me for Forty-One years, four months and twenty-four days. So, I think I will continue on this path, always striving to learn, grow and get closer to my Lord. It’s been quite a journey and it’s not over yet. Thank you, God!
Question of the Week: What step are you on?
Spiritual Principles of NA.
