Distancing

Distancing

We’re all familiar with social distancing these days, aren’t we? Some people have been doing that all their lives already. Many people like to be alone. Or they like to get away from it all from time to time.  They don’t like to be too close to others and have always been very concerned about germs.

Sometimes, it’s healing or refreshing to have some down time and be alone with God, nature or our thoughts. To feel our feelings and process them to a satisfying conclusion.

During this whole Covid Lockdown time people have pretty much been enclosed with each other continually.  24/7/365.  While others have been all alone in their homes, not getting out to see friends and family or even go to work or school.

So, while there is “Social Distancing” in place for when we’re out an about, there’s way too much “no distancing” going on in our homes.  The kids can’t go to school, many people have lost jobs and the “togetherness” has become so constant and so unavoidable that many people are ready to snap.

I’ve heard a lot of talk on the news about drinking and drug use has gone up exponentially! Domestic Violence is also on the rise as well as suicide and homicide.   Not everyone acts out like that, some just quietly turn inwards and wilt away in quiet pain.

I have seen some families and friends that have get togethers.  Nevertheless, we all know that life just isn’t the same.  Last night I got home late from flying back east and letting my little grandson spend some time with the other side of his family.  This was not at all an easy decision.  He is having fun; on a little county farm and meeting cousins he didn’t know he had.  I think that is great.

However, metaphorically speaking- there is never any distance between us.  I am so connected to this little boy that the miles do not change a thing in how we feel about each other.  I’m sure you have people you feel the same way about.

Yes, we all needed a break from each other in our 24/7/365 world since he can’t go to school, it’s online these days, as with many kids these days.  School, Church and sports was his biggest socializing places.  Without all that, he’s going stir crazy and so are we.  I know he’s having a great time and keeping up with his schooling on his visit and all will be well.

Sometimes You Just Need to Distance Yourself - Tiny Buddha | Life quotes, Quotes to live by, Inspirational quotes

A change of scenery is often just what we need to help us find a balance again.  I realize that he is luckier than a lot of other kids who do not have an option on change of scenery and to be with other family that care for and love them.  And yet, it’s me that’s having a hard time adjusting.  Letting go, as we all know, can be very difficult.  He’ll be back soon and my prayer is that the distancing that we have had will get us grateful once again to be together.

Since I have been in recovery, I have been taught to live in the solution, sometimes getting to the solution may be painful, but it is the means to an end.  Which will make full circle and bring about desired results.  Hopefully.

Distancing from our little boy is difficult but it would be selfish to keep him away from this opportunity and have us all continue to live stressed and on edge.  My husband and I will also seek to find some distancing and head into nature for some downtime and healing.  Finding balance within ourselves and doing a back up and regrouping will give us a new perspective.

All I know is that distance or no distance, there is no reason to get loaded.  But it can be used for growth and healing.  Pull closer to my God. Enjoy doing a few things that I want to do, work a step, find my own self again.  In all actually – all is well, nothing to fret over or use over, that’s for sure.

Question of the Week:  Do you need to distance from some loved ones for a bit? Spend some time with you and your Higher Power? Nature?

Or do you need for the social distancing to be over with? Get out and go to gatherings where there’s a lot of people. Like meetings, concerts, movies and the like.
