That's a Wrap! Episode 10: Pretty Little Criers - Daily Bruin

Dec. 28th

As we come to an end of a turbulent, scary 2020, most people are cheering, thinking, “Thank-God” this horrible year is over.  They want to wrap it up and burn it!  I don’t blame them; the virus death toll has now exceeded 320,000! People have lost loved ones, jobs, homes, education and some lost their clean time. And others began their addiction into a downward spiral of depression and fear.  The toll on everyone has been far too great.

It seemed to me a test of faith, will and fortitude at times.  Staying locked down, not going to church, meetings, or to see family and friends. Plus suspending our support networks.  Not able to do regular things like shopping, movies, concerts and restaurants have all been taken from us for most all of this year.  At least here in Cali.

We’ve tried to make the best of it this year, doing positive and constructive things, hitting meetings on zoom, staying clean and working on my recovery.  Staying in touch with sponsees and sponsor. As I’ve mentioned before, I am going through the Living Clean book with my sponsee’s.  Staying in touch with my recovery.

I will continue on that road as long as necessary. Because it’s not just about me.  I have my husband and grandson to consider on a daily basis. I’m very much in the One Day at a Time mode and now I must add, “don’t quit five minutes before the miracle”.  With the vaccines coming out I see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I know that many people are afraid to take the vaccine. I however, am anxious. Living in fear is not conducive to good health.  Therefore, we do what we can to stay alive and well.  I just want this all to be over as I know you all do.  So, let’s wrap up this year, this virus, the violence and divisions.  Let’s wrap it up and send it all pack’n! Let’s wrap up our addictions and diseases and hatred and fears and be done with them!

If the saying “When God closes one door, He opens another” is true (and I know it is) Then I believe the idea of wrapping up this year and sending it packing can also have the opposite effect as we go into the new year treating it as an un-opened gift, waiting to be unwrapped.  Slowly, with caution and glee, with gratitude and hope.  It is my ultimate prayer that as you unwrap your new gift, you will have the joys, peace and good health you are looking for. That you will find what you’re looking for, and some other good stuff you didn’t even know to look for will be there as well.  I pray your faith and recovery continue to grow and keep you on the track you are destined for.

This concludes my last entry under the Grandmasinrecovery.com blog. I will be changing the name of this blog to RecoverywithBooma.com   God bless and keep you all.

Happy New Year! Praying for better days ahead.
