The Bigger They Are……

Fall Back Quotes. QuotesGram

Well, I think ya’ll know what I’m saying here.  So, yesterday, I slipped in some water as I was stepping down a big step onto a tile floor and whoop! My feet went out from under me, it was not a pretty sight.  As I knew I was going down, I maneuvered myself in a way that I would not fall back and crack my head open.  I don’t think my head can take anymore trauma. Luckily, I fell- hard- right on my bottom. Took me a while to get up, but with the help of my husband and little grandson, they got me up.

As I sit here, there is some pain in the back, hands and derriere, especially the derriere! But at least nothings broken, bleeding or bashed in- like my skull. So, there’s a lot to be thankful for.

Which brings me to the real point.  Have you ever met someone who claims to be all that and then some?  The king pin of the outfit? The know it all and be it all kinda guy?  Oh yes you have.  We all have, and it’s more than annoying, isn’t it?  But then, have you watched them from a distant and seen how they struggle to keep up an image and to stay on top.  Or at least they think they’re on top or trying to pull it off.

I love when newcomers come into the program telling us what big time dealers and doer’s they are.  “I had three Cadillacs, a Porsche, a big house and a different lover for each day of the week!  I

made the best dope and sold the most and had connections all over the world”.   I’m like, Oky dooky, but yet, here you are, with the rest of us, sitting in a meeting trying to piece your life back together.  Hummm, what’s up with that big guy? Your lawyers couldn’t get you out of this?

The fact is, no.  No lawyer, no highfalutin friend, no fancy car or no amount of money can save us from ourselves. They cannot restore you to sanity, to peace of mind, to right thinking and right living.  They say it’s a long way down from the top, and I imagine that’s really true, I’ve never been on top like that.

But I do know, the only one who can bring you back to peace of mind, and a healthy way of life and help you find the real love and peace you’ve been looking for is God.  Your Higher Power.  And the fact is, you know it.  You don’t want your lawyers to get you out of it this time. Secretly, we want to face our fears, face our selves and our insecurities

We get tired and weary, the emotional and mental pain of it all is exhausting and more than we can humanly bear as we keep trying to act like big shots and as if everything is fine.  Everything is not fine.  We are killing ourselves and hurting all those around us and if we are dealing the junk, then we are hurting umpteen more.

So, we might fall, we may get defeated and lost in our addiction, but as the saying goes “our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall”.  I’m happy to say, once I was up again, I finished mopping the floor. It’s built into me to not stay down, to not give up and to keep coming back.

We all fall, and when we do, it’s ok, take a moment, catch your breath, check to make sure nothing’s broken and then, maybe slowly and carefully, get back up again. Take some breaths and move carefully at first, find your bearing and move on.  Think of what you’ve yet to do in this life that you can’t get done high.  Like, raise your kids in a healthy environment, finish school, get a decent job.  Help and serve others, follow God’s will for you. Find your reason, move towards it.

If you need some rests, that’s ok, probably necessary even.  Then get moving again.  Don’t let your addiction or the pain life throws at you keep you down.   Put your hand up and ask for help, there are many people standing by to help lend that hand and pull you up.  Look around for them, they are there. But just like my husband and grandson lent me a hand to pull me up off that floor, I had to be an active participant in pushing myself up and go with the momentum of their helpful hands.  Keep on keeping on peeps, the best is yet to come.

Question of the Week:  Have you ever fallen?  Flat on your face as the saying goes- that’s a metaphor I don’t mean for real.  – How did you get back up.  Or maybe Why did you get back up?

Here are a few people you may have heard of that fell and failed many times. Their secret; get back up and try, try again.
