Mother’s Day
Back in the day, back when my kids were little, there was a group of us, my drinking buddies, who would meet at the bar on the first day of school after we dropped the kids off, we called it “Mother’s Day”.
My kids are now in their forties, my daughter has a son in med school and her twins are starting high school today. My son has two older daughters in their twenties and I am raising his son. Today, I took him to his first day of school for the first time in fifteen months! He was excited and so I am. He is starting Jr. High today. I have mixed emotions, that’s for sure. But I am so grateful that school is back full time for us in my land, yay.
Covid and the lockdown just about did us all in, in more ways than one. When I was driving back from his school I remembered “Mother’s Day”. On the first day of school every year some of my girl friends that I partied with back then would drop off their kids at school and then we all would meet at our favorite pub. Luckily, school usually coincided with the first of the month in September, welfare day. Our poor babies, by the time they got home, we were wasted.
I am so grateful I do not have to live like that anymore, instead, my husband and I celebrated with an egg burrito and I had quiet time with my bible, journaling and writing. I have big plans to get my house in order and volunteer in certain places as well as begin subbing again.
I will also have a zoom meeting with my bff and continue some step work. I met with my sponsor on zoom Saturday and went through all twelve steps with her. I do it like that once a year as a house cleaning. She lives quite distance from me, so I would just do all twelve steps at once and go see her. But now we zoom because the traffic is really bad out there right now. I love my sponsor, it was great to work the steps with her, she is really something special.
I hope all of you with kids returning to school have an awesome year and maybe for some it will be a chance for you to return to work also, like me doing subbing. I fear that most of the kids are going to be behind, but I hope the teachers are patient and give them time to catch up. So, whenever your “Mother’s Day” is, I hope you get to enjoy your quiet time and getting to some things you have put off due to having kids constantly right there.
Heck, I think at this point, we’ll make it a Mothers Week! Maybe year, lol. Either way, enjoy. Be safe.
