Redemption: The action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment or clearing a debt.

Redeem: a: to buy back. b: to get or win back. c. to set free from what distresses or harms. To be free from captivity by payment or ransom.

I think you can see where I am going with this.  It has been one of those weeks where a theme has kept popping up, here-there-everywhere. Redemption.

I know for a fact that I have been redeemed.  I have been bought back and saved from a life of addiction and the insanity that goes with it.  From degradation, loss, and pain.  All I had to do was be willing to be redeemed.  To surrender.

There are a lot of things we can redeem. I found recovery and began to heal, I got back some self-worth, pride, integrity, honesty, gratitude, hope, and mostly- Love!

I have been able to redeem many relationships and salvage some that were nearly demolished by my addiction and lack of care and interest, even though they were important relationships.

The cool thing about my redemption is the trickle-down effect it’s had on these relationships.  It’s been an amazing blessing to watch.  For instance, I started being present for my children, giving them love and attention. Helping them navigate through their lives.  They in turn, have done the same for their children. Well, my daughter has, and now, today I watched as her oldest child, her son, who is nearly done with medical school, held his newborn and played with his three-year-old. A blessing for me to see.

I am moved and grateful to be a part of such a beautiful family that loves and honors their children and their children’s children. We have a new member in our family, and I am so grateful for the redemption that was shown to me over thirty-six years ago so that I can be a part of this beautiful boy’s life.

I still feel as though I’m trying to redeem myself in other ways, but I tell you what, I’m certainly not what I was, and I may not yet be who I’m entirely meant to be, but I have come an awful long way since I first surrendered and found my redemption.  I want to continue to pass it on.

Question of the Week:   Have you ever experienced redemption?
