Goodbyes & Memorials

Goodbyes and living memorials

Actually, this blog is going to be more about trusting God than anything else. I hate goodbyes, well, mostly. But the ones that involve my kids, grandkids, family and friends, for sure are the hardest.  I know I’ve mentioned her moving before, but now, she has moved. She is gone.  I am so grateful for my Marco Pollo app. We’ve been in contact with that and I love it. My son too.

I recognized a couple of years ago that I really need to learn to trust my Higher Power more.  My God, I mean, He’s had my back all of my life as far as I can tell, especially growing and thriving in recovery.  So, why can’t I just chill and know He’s got this? He’s got her and my friends that are in pain and in their last days as well.

This last week, there was a very special zoom meeting for one of our long timers (that’s what they call old timers now), because he is on hospice and not expected to live much longer. So they held a living memorial for him, where he could attend and hear how much he is loved and appreciated, it was awesome and from his sick bed he would listen and share after each one that shared about him, it was beautiful.

He has about sixty years clean, one of our beloved predecessors in NA. There were about two hundred and forty people at that meeting. He is very loved.  One of his sponsees is a good friend of ours and he spoke there, but he too is now going through chemo and dealing with cancer.  We pray for both of them and a couple of other good friends who are dealing with end-of-life issues and pain.

We pray for all of them, a couple times a day at least. As well as my daughters move and her getting all squared away in her new life.  For me, all of this takes trust in God. I’m sure it’s not news to anyone that I am powerless over people, places and things, all I can do is pray. I recognized many years ago that all I can do is pray.  Leave them to God, as if anything different could happen.

I feel the same way about the state of affairs of our country and the world regarding spiritual warfare that is in play behind it all, or, maybe because of it all.  I don’t know, but again, all I can do is pray. And I do, every day.  Let go and let God is my creed. My mantra. I am powerless over all of them, except myself.  I can only take care of me and what’s in front of me to do.  Like my husband and my home. My “stuff”.

Within our little NA area we had a member in service, new to her position, who has proven time and again to be too controlling with our area’s funds and management.  She was called out on her actions and ended up resigning and to me, that was the right thing to do. If you can’t do the job as it is suggested, then, what are you doing in the position anyway?  So, that was a good thing that happened this week, I am mentioning it because during her short service to the area, we could all see this was not a good thing, but I did not butt in, I prayed and trusted God and it turned out good.  Giving me more proof that trusting Him is the way to go.

Things seem to get done much better when I let go and get out of the way. But hey, that’s what I’m here for right? To learn and to grow in my recovery and my spiritual walk with the Lord.  For me, that’s the point! And listen, the “goodbyes” and the friends who are at “end of life” days, are not forever.  I certainly will be seeing my daughter again, soon I hope, and I hope and pray to see my friends in heaven, along with all my other most beloved people. 😊

As the people in our lives come and go, every which way, we (my husband and I) will continue to pray for them, do what we can for them and show them our love and support. But mostly, trust God with them all, after all, as I told my BFF last night, “God loves my daughter beyond what I am even capable of, he watches over her and cares for her. She is not in a bad place, just a different place. I need to let go and let Him”, ha, as if I could stop God from loving and taking care of his kids anyway!

Question of the Week: Do you trust your Higher Power? With everyone and everything?
