Plans, Purpose & Progress

Blog for January 10th, 2022

Well, we’re a week into a brand-new year and we’re back in quarantine again. However, I have a habit of planning my summer vacation in the winter while I seem to be stuck at home a lot.  It gives me something to look forward to.

So, I’m spending a lot of time these days, cleaning, organizing and planning.  There are some things I am looking forward to, the first being that our boy will finally start at his new school this week. Yay! We’re praying that he feels much safer and happier there. No more bullying.

Plans Purposes & Pursuits by Kenneth E. Hagin

All the holiday stuff is put away and organization is ongoing. I have been doing a lot of zoom meetings, consoling my grieving bff as best I can by phone. I am starting back to work Monday on my online class, I will be re-doing lessons today.  I love teaching this class.

I have also been re-elected as Webmaster for my area in NA and started attending those meetings as well, on zoom.  I had been asked to step in on a zoom meeting as leader when the leader had to run off for a covid test Friday. Also, I have tried to help a newcomer lady with two small babies by finding resources for her.  She needs a place to live. Times are so hard for so many. It seems that planning is key to these kind of endeavors.

So, even though I’m in quarantine, there’s much that can be done from home, from behind the scenes.  Praying is the first and most important thing to do, but making calls and finding resources is another.  I’ve also been reaching out to an extended family member that I barely know, she lives far far away from me, but she has an addict son much like mine.  So, I’m introducing her to Nar-anon and trying to teach her to do zoom and get on meetings has been a quest of mine this week also.  We’re still working on it.

Goals, Dreams, and Plans

As I said, I am planning a trip for my husband and I this summer, a “drive about” I call it.  We’re going to travel about to the states we’ve never been in. I’m looking forward to it. There are about four or five states I’ve never been to and we love to take road trips, so it will be a lot of fun and new adventures.  Just FYI, I didn’t get clean and work a program to sit around and wish. I do like new adventures and there really are so many nice people out there in the world.

I am also planning to work on a couple of projects that have been dangling for some time now.  My book, photos and house stuff. I am excited about these things.  I learned early in recovery that I always need something to look forward to, that’s why planning in the dead of winter lifts me up.

We all need to do what we need to do to stay afloat, to feel energized, needed, wanted and growing in our recovery. I find it vitally important to invest in my faith, and grow spiritually as much as possible.  I have a few different ways I go about that.

One way is reading spiritual material, like the Bible, daily meditations, the Just for Today meditation as well as studies and working my steps. It is important for me to continue to work my program and to give back. Hence the hosting of meetings and being on the Webmaster committee. I also work on the hotline one day a week.  But it is in sponsoring that I find the best way to give back and be of service. It truly brings me joy and happiness.  It gives me purpose.

Therefore, regarding my purpose and plans, I will venture to plan our progression of recovery by planning a zoom party/meeting with my sponsee.  I sure do miss seeing them in person.  I’ve been with a couple of them from time to time, but now that Covid is rising around us again, we’re back to staying home.

Planning in and of itself gives me purpose, looking forward to the future and fun times with family and friends. Having the vision of completed work, i.e., my house, book and pictures, also gets me energized and lifted. Making plans that have purpose and meaning to me and watching the progression of these plans is like a spiritual event for me.

Question of the Week: What plans are you making for the year ahead? Are there any upcoming events you are looking forward to?
